How to Delete All Gemini Chats (Bulk Delete Guide)

The two built-in ways to clear your Gemini chat history — and the gap between them.

Gemini keeps every conversation you have ever started in one long sidebar list: quick questions, abandoned drafts, tests, duplicates. When you finally decide to clean it up, you find two built-in options that sit at opposite extremes — delete one chat, or delete everything. This guide covers both, and what to do when you want something in between.

Option 1: delete Gemini chats one at a time

Inside the Gemini app, conversations are removed individually. Buttons move as the interface evolves, but the flow stays the same:

1. Open the chat list in the sidebar.
2. Hover (or tap) the conversation you want to remove and open its options menu.
3. Choose Delete and confirm.

The chat disappears from the list. There is no trash folder and no undo inside the app, so treat it as final. This is fine for two or three chats and painful for fifty: every removal is a separate find → menu → delete → confirm cycle, and the sidebar loads older conversations gradually as you scroll, so reaching the bottom of a long history takes time before you delete anything at all.

Option 2: delete everything from My Activity

Gemini conversations are also stored as Gemini Apps Activity in your Google Account, and that page does have a bulk control. Google documents it at myactivity.google.com/product/gemini, reachable from Gemini through Settings & help → Activity. There you can delete activity by time range — including All time — and set auto-deletion of activity older than a chosen number of months.

The catch: this control is all-or-nothing by date. You can wipe today, or the last 30 days, or everything — but you cannot say “delete these twelve conversations and keep the rest.” Retention rules there are Google’s and can change, so check that page for the current behaviour before relying on it.

The gap: deleting the chats you pick

Between “one chat at a time” and “erase all of it” there is no built-in middle. That middle is exactly what most cleanups need: keep the handful of conversations that matter, clear the rest.

Bulk Delete Chats for Gemini is a Chrome extension (made by us, Sidewing) that adds that missing step on top of the Gemini web app:

• Multi-select — tick any number of conversations in a panel and delete them in a single run.
• Select all, or filter first — type part of a title to narrow the list, then select only what matches.
• Paced and cancellable — deletions run one after another with a pause between them, and you can stop the run mid-batch; the chats not yet processed stay.

How it deletes: the extension sends each delete request to Gemini’s own endpoint from the page, using your existing session — the same kind of request the site makes when you delete a chat yourself. It asks for the storage permission only, runs on the Gemini web app and nowhere else, and never reads or uploads your conversation contents.

Which option should you use?

• A couple of chats — delete them in the sidebar, one at a time.
• Everything, no exceptions — My Activity, delete by All time.
• Most of them, but not all — select the ones you want gone and delete them in one batch.
